Searching Hekate In Majors

With the archetypical energies of the Major Arcana or Triumphs I am going to present those cards who are straightly connected with Hekate. As I did in Lenormand article, I am going to write some meanings of each card and then how the energy of the card is related with out Triple Goddess. The tarot deck that I use here is based in the english school (Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn) and it is the Smith-Waite Tarot. Though it is not the best deck for a Golden Dawn magickian, we are going to use it and its depictions here.

Magician

Meaning: Willingness, action, creativity, science, intelligence, success, charming, a man with many abilities, full potential, clear thinking

Astrological symbol: Mercury
Element: Air
Hekate is a cunning Goddess. She has the ability to make things done the way She wants. Except that, Hekate is the Goddess of Witchcraft. She has the tools of Magick, as we see them in the Magician's card. So this card also represents Magick. The roses show Her will, which is stronger than usual and the lilies Her pure thinking. Many people have read misleading information about Her, but she is a loving Goddess, especially with those who respect Her. The Magician has ouroboros at his belt. The snake is also a symbol of Hekate. Asking for work/career/money questions, the Magician is a card of new beginning, a new area, full of energy. Hekate is close to you when you start something new or when you have to decide. It is generally a powerful card, full of potential.

High Priestess

Meaning: secret, wisdom, occult, intuition, spirituality, vision, notice things, thinking your actions, solitude, acceptance, adjust, slowing down, someone who reads a lot, who is wise and has his way to give advices to others.

Astrological symbol: Moon
Element: Water
Hekate as a Goddess of Witchcraft she is a Goddess of Divination, as oracular work is a part of Witchcraft. Hekate has been connected with psychic abilities, divination, intuition and many different schools of divination like necromancy from the ancient times. She is the Goddess who holds the keys of the underworld and the High Priestess holds the sacred law, the eternal truth and she guards the temple of knowledge. We see pomegranates, the fruit which is often related with the underworld. The moon in her feet is also related with Selene, a Goddess which was connected with Hekate after Hellenistic Period. Hekate enchances the divination talents of Her devotees, so the card is fully connected with Her. Also, Hekate likes to be alone, like the High Priestess. In the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, She hears Persephone as She was in a cave.

Emperor

Meaning: control, security, honesty, straight things, order, law, decisions, responsibilities, leader, willing to act, organization, justice, compassion, passionate, fatherhood

Astrological symbol: Aries
Element: Fire
Leaders are connected with Hekate, because Her will is strong, as a leader's will. Hekate is going to make Her devotee handle responsibilites and move on his life. She is going to make him take decisions he postponed for long time. So, Hekate likes to organize Her people. This is true and that's why She is not working with anyone and not everyone is going to handle working with Hekate. Like the Emperor, She is strong and very persistent. Hekate is making things done Her way. No hesitations, no time extentions, no excuses. Moreover, She protects Her devotees as the Emperor protects his people.

Chariot

Meaning:victory, determination, journey, movement, control, action, the mind is triumphing

Astrological symbol: Cancer
Element: Water
As the Emperor has the power, so the Chariot has the power to control, to act, to do, to complete everything. Determination is the key worrd here and action. Many of the properties have been analyzed in the Emperor's card. Let me add that Hekate is helping everyone who wants to have the power change things in a more fiercelly way, a strong way, but She can be gentle using the power of the Strength card.

Strength

Meaning:strength, tension, courage, internal power, accepting you, patience, good manners, internal piece, empowerment

Astrological symbol: Leo
Element:Fire
This card is very similat to the Chariot but with a more gentle way. Strength is rulling everything, so there is no reason for her to act violently or to the point. She is patient as she knows that her will will pass and prevade. Hekate is very kind and gentle when needed, she is kind and compassionate. She can use more ways than the straight line. There is the circle or the arc too.

Justice

Meaning:balance, perception, laws, adapt

Astrological symbol: Libra
Element: Air
Hekate likes justice and Her devotees should be servants of commo unwritten laws. There is a tendency that people who have lived injustice for a long time, are drawn by Hekate. As the other things I write in this article, this is a personal notice I have seen working with Hekate. She protects the wronged.

Star

Meaning:hope, guidance, healing, release of emotions, inspire, luck, positive, do it, reach the stars, creativity

Astrological symbol: Aquarius
Element: Air
The Triple Goddess will give hope and guide you reach your goals helping you be focused on then and really know what you want. Determination is key for reaching the stars and be an important person, a leader in your section. Moreover, Hekate guides when you ask it, through praying. The Star card is about meditation too and there are interesting pathworkings with Hekate, which are helpful know some of Her aspects and work with Her energy. The seven stars in the card show the chakras and the energy work we have to do to keep them healthy. The lake is the subconscious mind and the woman is Nature. The waters she sheds are healing waters for the body and mind. Hekate can be conjured for healing work in the magick circle and She is amazingly effective. The waters represent also the gifts of spirit, which Hekate can provide to a loyal devotee.

Moon

Meaning:illusions, crisis, deceit, lost, confusion, secrets, intuition, dreams

Astrological symbol: Pisces
Element: Water
The card has interesting symbolism. In the front we see a hostile environment. But there are allies in this journey. The dog is a guardian, representing our calm mind. The towers are symbols of protection. We can visit them to escape attacks. The moon is our power light. She is shining to guide as left behind the animal-based self we have inside. There is a greek song for that. It speaks as a praying to the moon asking this light in order to go the school and learn things or go to a girl's house to see her secretly at night. Back to the card now. The hostile animals will make noises to distract you but the mind should be calm (zazen) and followi the light of the moon. The moon here is in its three phases. The main message of the card is look inside to become better and followi your heart and empty mind. We can say that the moonlight is the energy of a Goddess who can help us uplift our spirit and become god-centered humans that animal-centered humans.

Judjement

Meaning:let go, listen to the calling, reborn, new beginning, leave past behind, leave old behavious, remove obstacles

Astrological symbol: Pluto
Element: Fire
When I think Hekate and the Judjement one word comes to my mind, initiation. If a devotee wants to enter the Covenant of Hekate, he is performing two ceremonies. As in Wicca, you make a promise and then you see your life changing. Change is good when a Goddess is movint the strings for you. So, reborn is related with initation. Leaving things behind and bad habbits is also related with initiation and with the Dark Moon, a moon phase related with Hekate and divination too. The Judjement card shows an archangel (Gabriel). Hekate is related with angels and she is called angelos, a representation of Her we see in Korinth. The card shows a very spiritual person who is devoted hardly in a God or Goddess and cannot easily find his way to the material/physical plane. This spiritual power is also showing that the spiritual nature of human is awakened and now his life is changing because he is another man.
